Ian had followed the growth of Chartwell for a number of years, and it was the satisfaction of supporting a financial services business with great potential and strong customer values that persuaded him to take up the Chairman's role.
Ian is actively involved in the business and enjoys representing Chartwell wherever possible.
Prior to his role as Chairman of Vodafone, Ian spent 38 years at Tesco, where he was Chairman and Chief Executive.
He is also very well known for his tenure as Chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board from 1996 to 2002.
